Vietjet’s first ever direct route between Hanoi and Jakarta
On September 4, Vietjet announced the first ever service linking Hanoi with Jakarta, the two capitals of Vietnam and Indonesia. The announcement took place in the presence of Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, along with the two countries’ representatives of high-ranking leaders and enterprises during the Prime Minister's visit to Indonesia to attend the 43rd ASEAN Summit.
The newly announced Hanoi - Jakarta route will be Vietjet’s fourth direct service between Vietnam and Indonesia. With four weekly services and just four-and-half-an-hour flight on modern aircraft, Vietjet is expected to provide ideal travel options to discover Jakarta, totaling the flights between the two countries to 92 flights per week starting this December.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and high-ranking delegates congratulated Vietjet and highly appreciated the direct air service linking two countries’ capitals, as it contributes to promoting Vietnam and Indonesia’s trade and investment. With a population of 280 million, Indonesia is the world's fourth most populous nation, and the bustling metropolitan area of Jakarta with over 10 million residents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien, Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade, said: “In a post-pandemic era, Vietjet’s pioneering new services are more remarkable than ever by preventing the supply chain disruption in connectivity and bolstering resilient cooperation between the two countries and in the region. The Hanoi-Jakarta route, announced during the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership, also contributes to the target of US$15 billion bilateral trade between Vietnam and Indonesia this year. It is poised to unlock a host of new and favorable opportunities, fostering closer ties and cooperation between our two countries, our people, and the broader ASEAN region."
Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Mr. Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, remarked at the ceremony: “My congratulations go to Vietjet Air on the announcement of this direct service linking the capitals of Indonesia and Vietnam, further boosting air connectivity between the two countries. Vietnam and Indonesia account for nearly 60 percent of the population of ASEAN, with an annual bilateral trade growth rate of 10 percent. Therefore, increased connectivity is essential and will open up more opportunities in sectors such as trade, tourism, investment, and sustainable economy, which are the direction and future of ASEAN's economy. I hope to see Vietjet's flights bringing more visitors to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, and the beautiful islands of Bali.”
Vietjet aims to transport one million passengers annually between Indonesia and Vietnam, contributing to boost the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia. These routes serve as a bridge for cultural and economic exchanges, providing convenient connectivity for both nations and the people.
